Sudama Bhet
Shri Krishna
Sudama Bhet illustration
A poor friend visits the king of Dwaraka with only a handful of rice — and is showered with love.

Sudama was a poor brahmin, but in his childhood he had been Krishna's best friend at gurukul. Years passed, and Krishna became the king of Dwaraka while Sudama remained poor. One day, his wife begged him to visit Krishna and ask for help.

Sudama hesitated — he had nothing to bring as a gift, only a small bundle of beaten rice (poha) tied in a cloth. When he arrived, Krishna ran to embrace him, washed his feet with tears, and ate the simple poha as if it were the finest feast.

Sudama returned home, too shy to ask for anything. But when he reached his village, he found his old hut transformed into a beautiful palace — Krishna had silently blessed him with abundance, without ever being asked.
